Benefits of reciting Ya Rasheed (يا رشيد)

Name

Ar-Rasheed

Meaning

The Guide to the Right Path
The Infallible Teacher

Explanation

The One who unerringly decrees, appoints or ordains the right way. The One who is the supreme director to the right path and right belief. The One who perfectly and righteously directs all matters toward their proper conclusion. The One who needs no aid to direct all affairs rightly.

Quran

And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad (ﷺ)], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided. (2:186)

[Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance." (18:10)

And [had you been present], you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [laying] within an open space thereof. That was from the signs of Allah . He whom Allah guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He leaves astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide. (18:17)

Except [when adding], "If Allah wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct." (18:24)

It (the Qur'an) guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone. (72:2)

There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing. (2:256)

And know that among you is the Messenger of Allah . If he were to obey you in much of the matter, you would be in difficulty, but Allah has endeared to you the faith and has made it pleasing in your hearts and has made hateful to you disbelief, defiance and disobedience. Those are the [rightly] guided. (49:7)

Hadith

1. Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to supplicate:

O Allah, I ask You of Your mercy, that You guide by it my heart, and gather by it my affair, and bring together that which has been scattered of my affairs, and correct with it that which is hidden from me, and raise by it that which is apparent from me, and purify by it my actions, and inspire me by it with that which contains my guidance, and protect me by it from that which I seek protection, and protect me by it from every evil.

2. Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to supplicate:

O Allah, Possessor of the strong rope, and the guided affair, I ask You for security on the Day of the Threat, and Paradise on the Day of Immortality along with the witnesses, brought-close, who bow and prostrate, who fulfill the covenants, You are Merciful, Loving, and indeed, You do what You wish.

3. 'Imran bin Husain (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) taught my father two statements to recite in his Du'a. These are:

"O Allah! Inspire in me guidance and deliver me from the evils within myself."

4. Talhah bin Ubaidullah (رضي الله عنه) reported: At the sight of the new moon (of the lunar month), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to supplicate:

"O Allah, let this moon appear on us with security and Iman; with safety and Islam. (O moon!) Your Rubb and mine is Allah. May this moon be bringing guidance and good."

5. Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying,

“Things are of three categories: a matter whose right guidance is clear, which you must follow; a matter whose error is clear, which you must avoid; and a matter about which there is a difference of opinion, which you must entrust to Allah.”

6. Rifa'a az-Zurqi (رضي الله عنه) said, "In the Battle of Uhud when the idolaters retreated, the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, 'Form straight ranks so that I can praise my Almighty Lord.' They formed in ranks behind him. He said,

'O Allah, all praise is due to You. O Allah, none can contract what You expand nor bring near what you put far away. None can put far away what You bring near. None can give what You withhold nor withhold what You give. O Allah, expand to us some of Your blessings, mercy and favour and give us provision! O Allah, I ask You for the abiding blessing which is neither changed nor removed. O Allah, I ask You for blessing on the Day of Utter Poverty and security on the Day of Fear. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of what You give us. O Allah, make us love belief and adorn our hearts with it. Make us hate disbelief, deviance and rebellion. Place us among the rightly-guided. O Allah, make us die Muslims and make us live as Muslims and join us to the rightly, acting, who are neither disappointed nor afflicted. O Allah, fight the unbelievers who bar your path and who deny Your Messengers. Place You abasement and punishment over them. O Allah, fight the unbelievers who were given the Book, O Lord of Truth'!"

7. It was narrated from Shadad bin Aws (رضي الله عنه) that: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say in his prayer:

"O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all my affairs and determination in following the right path, I ask You to make me thankful for Your blessings and to make me worship You properly. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the best of what You know and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what You know and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know."

8. On the authority of Abu Najeeh al-’Irbaad ibn Saariyah (رضي الله عنه) who said: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) gave us a sermon by which our hearts were filled with fear and tears came to our eyes. So we said, “O Messenger of Allah! It is as though this is a farewell sermon, so counsel us.” He (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

“I counsel you to have Taqwa (fear) of Allah, and to listen and obey [your leader], even if a slave were to become your Ameer. Verily he among you who lives long will see great controversy, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafa ar-Rashideen (the rightly guided caliphs), those who guide to the right way. Cling to it stubbornly [literally: with your molar teeth]. Beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for verily every bidah (innovation) is misguidance.”

9. Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) reported Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying,

“If anyone is given a legal decision ignorantly, the sin rests on the one who gave it; and if anyone advises his brother, knowing that right guidance lies in another direction, he has deceived him.”

10. Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

"Anyone who attributes words to me which I did not say should take his seat in the Fire. Anyone who gives his Muslim brother misguided advice when they consult him has betrayed them. If anyone gives a fatwa which is not firm, the wrong action of that rests on the one who gave the fatwa."

11. Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه): When the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) addressed, he would say:

"Praise be to Allah, from Whom we seek help and pardon, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls. He whom Allah guide has no one who can lead him astray, and he whom He leads astray has no one to guide him. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. He sent him before the coming of the last hour with truth giving good tidings and warning. He who obeys Allah and His Apostle follows the right path; and he who disobeys them shall harm none except himself, and he will not harm Allah in the least."

12. Narrated Jarir  (رضي الله عنه): Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) did not screen himself from me since my embracing Islam, and whenever he saw me he would receive me with a smile. Once I told him that I could not sit firm on horses. He stroke me on the chest with his hand and said,

"O Allah! Make him firm and make him a guiding and a rightly guided man."
