Or do they have gods to defend them other than Us? They are unable [even] to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us. (21:43)

Or who is it that could provide for you if He withheld His provision? But they have persisted in insolence and aversion. (67:21)

Whatever Allah grants to people of mercy - none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds - none can release it thereafter. (35:2)

Hadith

1. Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (رضي الله عنه) reported: Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say at the conclusion of prayer:

There is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner with Him, His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent.
O Allah! None can deny that which You bestow and none can bestow that which You hold back; and the greatness of the great will be of no avail to them against You.

(Riyad as-Salihin Book 16, Hadith 9)

2. Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنه): "One of the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) pitched a tent on a grave without knowing that it was a grave. Suddenly he heard a person from the grave reciting Surah al-Mulk till he completed it. So he went to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said: 'Oh Messenger of Allah, I pitched my tent on a grave without realizing that is was a grave. Then suddenly I heard a person from the grave reciting Surah al-Mulk till he completed it.' The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

'It is the defender, it is the deliverer - it delivers from the punishment of the grave.'"

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 5, Book 42, Hadith 2890)

3. It was narrated from 'Ata bin Abi Marwan, from his father, that: Ka'b swore to him: "By Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) Who parted the sea for Musa, we find in the Tawrah that when Dawud, the Prophet of Allah, finished his prayer, he would say:

'O Allah, set straight my religious commitment that You have made a protection for me, and set straight my worldly affairs which You have made a means of my livelihood. O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and I seek refuge in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. None can withhold what you have given and none can give what you have withheld, and no wealth or fortune can avail the man of wealth and fortune before You.' "

He said: "And Ka'b told me that Suhaib told him that Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say (these words) when he had finished praying."

(Sunan an-Nasa'i 1346)

4. It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed (رضي الله عنه) that: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say (after Ruku'):

"Allah hears the one who praises Him; Our Lord, to You be the Praise, filling the heavens, filling the Earth, and filling whatever else You will, Lord of Glory and Majesty, the truest thing a slave had said, and we are all slaves to You. None can withhold what You grant, nor can the possession of an owner benefit him before You."

(Sunan an-Nasa'i 1068)

5. Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say (after Ruku'):

"O Allah, our Rabb (Lord), to You is praise in all the heavens and all the earth, and all that You Will (to create) afterwards, O You, Who are worthy of praise and glory, the most worthy of what a slave says - and we are all Your slaves: no one can withhold what You give, or give what You withhold, and riches cannot avail a wealthy person against You."

(Bulugh al-Maram Book 2, Hadith 182)

6.
Rifa'a az-Zurqi (رضي الله عنه) said, "In the Battle of Uhud when the idolaters retreated, the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, 'Form straight ranks so that I can praise my Almighty Lord.' They formed in ranks behind him. He said,

'O Allah, all praise is due to You. O Allah, none can contract what You expand nor bring near what you put far away. None can put far away what You bring near. None can give what You withhold nor withhold what You give. O Allah, expand to us some of Your blessings, mercy and favour and give us provision! O Allah, I ask You for the abiding blessing which is neither changed nor removed. O Allah, I ask You for blessing on the Day of Utter Poverty and security on the Day of Fear. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of what You give us. O Allah, make us love belief and adorn our hearts with it. Make us hate disbelief, deviance and rebellion. Place us among the rightly-guided. O Allah, make us die Muslims and make us live as Muslims and join us to the rightly, acting, who are neither disappointed nor afflicted. O Allah, fight the unbelievers who bar your path and who deny Your Messengers. Place You abasement and punishment over them. O Allah, fight the unbelievers who were given the Book, O Lord of Truth!'"

(Al-Adab Al-Mufrad Book 1, Hadith 96)

7.
Hakam reported: There dominated in Kufa a man whose name was mentioned as Zaman b. al-Ash'ath, who ordered Abu 'Ubaidah b. 'Abdullah to lead people in prayer and he accordingly used to lead them. Whenever he raised his head after bowing, he stood up equal to the time that I can recite (this supplication):

O Allah! our Lord! unto Thee be the praise which would fill the heavens and the earth, and that which will please Thee besides them I Worthy art Thou of all praise and glory. None can prevent that which Thou bestowest, and none can bestow that which Thou preventest. And the greatness of the great will not avail him against Thee.

Hakam (the narrator) said: I made a mention of that to Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Laila who reported: I heard al-Bara' b. 'Azib say that the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and his bowing, and when he lifted his head from bowing, and his prostration, and between the two prostrations (all these acts) were nearly proportionate. I made a mention of that to 'Ar b. Murrah and he said: I saw Ibn Abi Laili (saying the prayer), but his prayer was not like this.

(Sahih Muslim 471 b)
