5.1 Abd al-Rahman b. Abu Bakra (رضي الله عنه) reported on the authority of his father that a person praised another person in the presence of Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), whereupon he said:

Woe be to thee, you have broken the neck of your friend, you have broken the neck of your friend-he said this twice. If one of you has to praise his friend at all, he should say:

“Allah sufficeth me: there is no god but He; on Him is my trust- He, the Lord of the Throne (of glory) Supreme”,

‘It is sufficient for me that I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say:

‘A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one third of food, one third for drink and one third for air’.”

"Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and, He is the Best Disposer of affairs."

So did Messenger of Allah Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) when he was told:

"A great army of the pagans had gathered against him, so fear them". But this (warning) only increased him and the Muslims in Faith and they said: "Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)". (3:173)

For me Allah sufficeth, and He is the best dispenser of affairs.

The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

Allah, Most High, blames for falling short, but apply intelligence, and when the matter gets the better of you, say; For me Allah sufficeth, and He is the best disposer of affairs.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 3627)

5.12 It was narrated that Anas (رضي الله عنه) said: “One day, Jibril (عليه السلام) came to the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) when he was sitting in a sorrowful state with his face soaked with blood, because some of the people of Makkah had struck him. He said: ‘What is the matter with you?’

He said: ‘These people did such and such to me.’ He said: ‘Would you like me to show you a sign?’ He said: ‘Yes, show me.’ He looked at a tree on the far side of the valley and said: ‘Call that tree.’ So he called it, and it came walking until it stood before him. He said: ‘Tell it to go back.’ So he told it, and it went back to its place. Then the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

‘That is sufficient for me’.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 4028)

"Praise be to Allah who created everything as is necessary, who does not hasten anything He defers and determines. Allah is enough for me and sufficient. Allah hears whoever makes dua to him. Allah does not have a goal."

(Muwatta Malik Book 46, Hadith 9)

5.14 Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) reported: Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

"How can I feel at ease when the Angel of the Trumpet, (Israfil) has put his lips to the Trumpet and is waiting for the order to blow it". He perceived as if this had shocked his Companions, so he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) told them to seek comfort through reciting:

(Al-Mu'jam Al-Awsat 2/399, 3649)

5.16 It was narrated from Mus’ab bin Sa’d that his father, Sa’d bin Abu Waqqas (رضی الله عنهم), said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), which people are most severely tested?’ He said:

‘The Prophets, then the next best and the next best. A person is tested according to his religious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested more severely, and if he is frail in his religious commitment, his test will be according to his commitment. Trials will continue to afflict a person until they leave him walking on the earth with no sin on him’.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 4023)

5.17 Narrated Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه): That he heard Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying,

"While a lady was nursing her child, a rider passed by and she said, 'O Allah! Don't let my child die till he becomes like this (rider).' The child said, 'O Allah! Don't make me like him,' and then returned to her breast (sucking it). (After a while) they passed by a lady who was being pulled and teased (by the people). The child's mother said, 'O Allah! Do not make my child like her.' The child said, 'O Allah! Make me like her.' Then he said, 'As for the rider, he is an infidel, while the lady is accused of illegal sexual intercourse (falsely) and she says: Allah is sufficient for me (He knows the truth).

(Sahih al-Bukhari 3466)

5.18 A'isha (رضي الله عنها) reported that Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

He who is taken to account on the Day of Resurrection is in fact put to torment.

I said: Has Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, not said this:

'He will be made subject to an easy reckoning?' (84:8)

Thereupon he said:

(What it implies) is not the actual reckoning, but only the presentation of one's deeds to Him. He who is thoroughly examined in reckoning is put to torment.

(Sahih Muslim 2876 a)

5.19 Narrated Zayd ibn Arqam (رضي الله عنه): I heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying after his prayer:

"O Allah, our Lord and Lord of everything, I bear witness that Thou art the Lord alone Who hast no partner; O Allah, Our Lord and Lord of everything, I bear witness that Muhammad is Thy servant and Thy apostle ; O Allah, our Lord and Lord of everything, I bear witness that all the servants are brethren; O Allah, our Lord and Lord of everything make me sincere to Thee, and my family too at every moment, in this world and in the world hereafter, O Possessor of glory and honour, listen to me and answer. Allah is incomparably great. O Allah, Light of the heavens and of the earth".

The narrator Sulaiman b. Dawud said:

"Lord of the heavens and of the earth, Allah is incomparably great. Allah is sufficient for me; and the excellent guardian is He; Allah is incomparably great.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 1508)

5.20 Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضی الله عنهم) said,

"The nobility of the mumin is his taqwa. His deen is his noble descent. His manliness is his good character. Boldness and cowardice are but instincts which Allah places wherever He wills. The coward shrinks from defending even his father and mother, and the bold one fights for the sake of the combat not for the spoils. Being slain is but one way of meeting death, and the martyr is the one who gives himself, expectant of reward from Allah."

(Muwatta Malik Book 21, Hadith 35)

5.21 It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Abu Aufa (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) cursed the tribes (who had marched upon Medina with a combined force in 5 H) and said:

O Allah, Revealer of the Book, swift in (taking) account, put the tribes to rout. O Lord, defeat them and shake them.

(Sahih Muslim 1742 b)

5.22 'A'isha (رضي الله عنها) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying:

He who is examined thoroughly in reckoning is undone.

(Sahih Muslim 2876 d)

5.23 Abu Abdullah bin Tariq bin Ashyam (رضي الله عنه) reported: Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

"He who professes La ilaha illallah (There is no true god except Allah), and denies of everything which the people worship besides Allah, his property and blood become inviolable, and it is for Allah to call him to account".

(Riyad as-Salihin Book 1, Hadith 391)

5.24 It is reported on the authority of Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

I have been commanded to fight against people so long as they do not declare that there is no god but Allah, and he who professed it was guaranteed the protection of his property and life on my behalf except for the right and his affairs rest with Allah.

(Sahih Muslim 21 a)

5.25 'Imran b. Husain (رضي الله عنه)  reported: Verily the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

Seventy thousand men of my Ummah would enter Paradise without rendering account.

They (the companions of the Holy Prophet) said: Who would be those, Messenger of Allah? He (the Holy Prophet) said:

They would be those who neither practise charm, not take omens, nor do they cauterise, but they repose their trust in their Lord.

(Sahih Muslim 218 b)

5.26 Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) reported Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying:

When a slave fulfills obligation of Allah and obligation of his master, he has two rewards for him.

I narrated this to Ka'b (رضي الله عنه) , and Ka'b said:

(Such a slave) has no accountability, nor has a poor believer.

(Sahih Muslim 1666 a)

5.27 Narrated Ibn `Abbas (رضي الله عنه) : Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

"Seventy thousand people of my followers will enter Paradise without accounts, and they are those who do not practice Ar-Ruqya and do not see an evil omen in things, and put their trust in their Lord.

(Sahih al-Bukhari 6472)

5.28 Narrated 'Aishah (رضي الله عنها): I heard Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying,

"The just Qadi (judge) will be called (forth) on the Day of Resurrection and he will wish he had never given judgement even between two men throughout his life, due to the severity of the account he will face."

[Reported by Ibn Hibban. al-Baihaqi reported it with the wording:

"...concerning a single tamrah (date fruit)."]

(Bulugh al-Maram 1408)

5.29 Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported: Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

"I was shown the past nations. I saw a Prophet who had a very small group (less than ten in total) with him, another Prophet who was accompanied by only one or two men and some did not have even one. Suddenly I was shown a huge crowd and I thought that they were my Ummah, but I was told: 'This is Musa (Moses) and his people, but look towards the other side.' I looked and beheld a great assemblage. I was told:

'These are your people and amongst them there are seventy thousand who shall enter Jannah without being taken to account or torment".

Then the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) stood up and went into his apartment, and the Companions began to guess who may be those people who would enter Jannah without any accounting or torment. Some said: "Probably, they are the ones who kept company with Messenger of Allah". Others said: "Probably, they are the ones who have been born as Muslims and have never associated anyone with Allah in worship". Then Messenger of Allah came out and asked, "What are you discussing?" So they told him. He then said,

"They are those who do not make Ruqyah (blowing over themselves after reciting the Qur'an or some prayers and supplications the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say) nor seek it, nor perceive omens (i.e., they are not pessimistic) but keep trust in their Rubb (Allah)."

On this 'Ukashah bin Mihsan (رضي الله عنه) stood up and asked: "Pray to Allah to make me one of them." The Prophet said, "You are one of them." Then another man stood up and asked the same thing. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) answered, "'Ukashah has surpassed you".

(Riyad as-Salihin Book 1, Hadith 74)

5.30 Abu Sa'id Al Khudri and Na'im bin Hammar Al-Ghatfani (رضی الله عنهم) related that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was asked which martyrdom in Jihad is the best on the Day of Judgement. He said:

“Those who press themselves into the first row and do not turn their faces until they are killed. They enjoy in the highest pavilions (al-ghuraf al-'ula) of paradise. Your Lord laughs (in pleasure) at them. Indeed when your Lord laughs at a believing servant, there is no reckoning for him.”

(At-Targhib wat-Tarhib, Sahih Al-Jami')
