Explanation

The One who is kind, gentle and ample in goodness. The One who is the doer of good, both materially and spiritually. The One who is kindly and gracious. The One from whom every good deed comes. The One who is the source of all kindness and goodness. The One who bountifully bestows the gifts of tolerance, gentleness, goodness and kindness. The One who is ever-merciful and compassionate.

The One whose kind and gracious goodness is bestowed on the creation. He is the Doer of all good and all good deeds come from Him.

Quran

إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْبَرُّ الرَّحِيمُ

Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful. (52:28)

لَن تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّىٰ تُنفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ ۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُوا مِن شَيْءٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِهِ عَلِيمٌ

Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it. (3:92)

لَّيْسَ الْبِرَّ أَن تُوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَلَٰكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالْكِتَابِ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ وَآتَى الْمَالَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ ذَوِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَالْيَتَامَىٰ وَالْمَسَاكِينَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيلِ وَالسَّائِلِينَ وَفِي الرِّقَابِ وَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَى الزَّكَاةَ وَالْمُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ إِذَا عَاهَدُوا ۖ وَالصَّابِرِينَ فِي الْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ وَحِينَ الْبَأْسِ ۗ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا ۖ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُونَ

Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous. (2:177)

ولقد كرمنا بني آدم وحملناهم في البر والبحر ورزقناهم من الطيبات وفضلناهم على كثير ممن خلقنا تفضيلا

And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference. (17:70)

إن الأبرار لفي نعيم

Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure. (82:13)

Hadith

1. An-Nawwas bin Sam'an (رضي الله عنه) narrated, ‘I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about virtue and sin and he replied,

اَلْبِرُّ حُسْنُ اَلْخُلُقِِ, وَالْإِثْمُ مَا حَاكَ فِي صَدْرِكَ, وَكَرِهْتَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِ اَلنَّاسُ

“The essence of virtue is (manifested in) good morals (Akhlaq) whereas sinful conduct is that which turns in your heart (making you feel uncomfortable) and you dislike that it would be disclosed to other people.”

(Bulugh al-Maram Book 16, Hadith 1483)

2. Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said,

إن الصدق يهدي إلى البر، وإن البر يهدي إلى الجنة، وإن الرجل ليصدق حتى يكتب عند الله صديقًا، وإن الكذب يهدي إلى الفجور، وإن الفجور يهدي إلى النار، وإن الرجل ليكذب حتى يكتب عند الله كذابًا‏

"Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Jannah. A man persists in speaking the truth till he is recorded with Allah as a truthful man. Falsehood leads to transgression and transgression leads to the Hell-fire. A man continues to speak falsehood till he is recorded with Allah as a great liar."

(Riyad as-Salihin Book 18, Hadith 32)

3. It was narrated that 'Aishah (رضي الله عنها) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ الطَّاهِرِ الطَّيِّبِ الْمُبَارَكِ الأَحَبِّ إِلَيْكَ الَّذِي إِذَا دُعِيتَ بِهِ أَجَبْتَ وَإِذَا سُئِلْتَ بِهِ أَعْطَيْتَ وَإِذَا اسْتُرْحِمْتَ بِهِ رَحِمْتَ وَإِذَا اسْتُفْرِجْتَ بِهِ فَرَّجْتَ ‏

O Allah! I ask You by Your pure, good and blessed Name which is most beloved by You, which if You are called thereby You answer, and if You as asked thereby You give, if You are asked for mercy thereby You bestow mercy, and if You are asked for relief (from distress) thereby You grant relief.'"

She said: "He said one day: 'O 'Aishah, do you know that Allah has told me the Name which, if He is called thereby, He responds?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you! Teach it to me.' He said: 'You should not learn it, O 'Aishah.' So I moved aside and sat for a while, then I got up and kissed his head, then I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, teach it to me.' He said: 'You should not learn it, O 'Aishah, and I should not teach it to you, for you should not ask for any worldly things thereby.'" She said: "So I got up and performed ablution, then I prayed two Rak'ah, then I said:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَدْعُوكَ اللَّهَ وَأَدْعُوكَ الرَّحْمَنَ وَأَدْعُوكَ الْبَرَّ الرَّحِيمَ وَأَدْعُوكَ بِأَسْمَائِكَ الْحُسْنَى كُلِّهَا مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهَا وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ أَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي وَتَرْحَمَنِي

'O Allah, I call upon Allah, and I call upon You, Ar-Rahman (the Most Gracious), and I call upon You, Al-Barr Ar-Rahim (The Most Kind, the Most Merciful), and I call upon You by all Your beautiful Names, those that I know and those that I do not know, (asking) that You forgive me and have mercy on me.'

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) smiled, then he said: 'It is among the Names by which you called upon (Allah).'"

Duas

يا حي يا قيوم يا واحد يا مجيد يا بر يا كريم يا رحيم يا غني تمم علينا نعمتك، وهب لنا كرامتك وألبسنا عافيتك

سبحان ربي الملك القدوس العزيز الحكيم، يا حي يا قيوم، يا بر يا رحيم، يا غني يا كريم، ارزقني من التجارة أعظمها فضلا وأوسعها رزقا وخيرها لي عاقبة فإنه لا خير فيما لا عاقبة له

وناد يا رحمن ... يا بر يا منان ... إني حزين

اللهم من أرادوا الحج فيسر لهم السبل يا رب العالمين! ومن حرم ذلك فاكتب له الأجر يا بر! يا رحيم! اللهم آمنا في أوطاننا، وأصلح أئمتنا وولاة أمورنا، واجعل ولايتنا فيمن خافك واتقاك واتبع رضاك يا رب العالمين! اللهم لا تحرمنا خير ما عندك بأسوأ ما عندنا يا بر! يا رحيم! اللهم حبب إلينا الإيمان وزينه في قلوبنا، وكره إلينا الكفر والفسوق والعصيان، واجعلنا يا ربنا! من الراشدين.

اللهم يا حي يا قيوم يا ذا الجلال والإكرام ، أسألك بأسرارك المستودعة في خلقك ، بعزة عرشك بقدس نفسك ، بنور وجهك ، بمبلغ علمك ، بغاية قدرك ، ببسط قدرتك ، بحق شكرك ، بمنتهى رحمتك ، بسلطان مشيئتك ، بعظمة ذاتك ، بكل صفاتك ، بجميع أسمائك ، بمكنون سرك ، بجميل سترك ، بجزيل برك ، بكمال منتك ، بفيض جودك ، بقاهر غضبك ، بسابق رحمتك ، بأعداد كلماتك ، بعناية مجدك ، بجليل طولك ، بتفريد فردانيتك ، بتوحيد وحدانيتك ، بدائم بقائك ، بسرمدية قدسك ، بأزلية ربوبيتك ، بعظيم كبريائك ، بجلالك بجمالك ، بكمالك بإنعامك ، بشامخ أفعالك ، بسيادة ألوهيتك ، بجباريتك بحنانيتك بمنانيتك ، بعطفك بلطفك ببرك بإحسانك ، بحقك يا رباه ، يا غوثاه ، أستعينك أستجديك أن تجعل لي من كل هم وغم وكرب فرجا ، ومن كل بلاء وشدة وضيق مخرجا ، واجعل أوقاتي بك عامرة ، وسريرتي بمحبتك نيرة ، وعيني بشهود آثار لطفك قريرة ، وبصيرتي بلوامع أنوار قربك مستنيرة وبصيرة ، بحق كهيعص ، وحم عسق ، وبحق : طه ، وطس ، وص ، ويس ، وآلر ، وآلم ، ون ، وحم ، وطسم ، وبسر القرآن العظيم يا علي يا عظيم ، يا رحمن يا رحيم ، يا بر يا كريم يا أول يا قديم
