Quran
لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ ۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent. (57:2)
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْيِي وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ الْوَارِثُونَ
And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor. (15:23)
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَقَالُوا لِإِخْوَانِهِمْ إِذَا ضَرَبُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ أَوْ كَانُوا غُزًّى لَّوْ كَانُوا عِندَنَا مَا مَاتُوا وَمَا قُتِلُوا لِيَجْعَلَ اللَّهُ ذَٰلِكَ حَسْرَةً فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ
O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, "If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed," so Allah makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do. (3:156)
قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلَيْكُمْ جَمِيعًا الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ ۖ فَآمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ الَّذِي يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَكَلِمَاتِهِ وَاتَّبِعُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ
Say, [O Muhammad], "O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death." So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided. (7:158)
إِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّيَ الَّذِي يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ
Abraham (عليه السلام) said, "My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death." (2:258)
اللَّهُ يَتَوَفَّى الْأَنفُسَ حِينَ مَوْتِهَا وَالَّتِي لَمْ تَمُتْ فِي مَنَامِهَا ۖ فَيُمْسِكُ الَّتِي قَضَىٰ عَلَيْهَا الْمَوْتَ وَيُرْسِلُ الْأُخْرَىٰ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
Allah takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that do not die [He takes] during their sleep. Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death and releases the others for a specified term. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought. (39:42)
كَذَٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
Thus does Allah seal the hearts of those who do not know. (30:59)
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى السَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ
Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind]. (50:37)
Hadith
1. Hudhaifah bin Al-Yaman (رضي الله عنه) narrated that when the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) wanted to sleep, he would say:
اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
“O Allah, in Your Name I die and I live.”
And when he would wake, he would say:
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَا نَفْسِي بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَهَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
“Allah praise is due to Allah who revived my soul after causing its death and to Him is the resurrection.”
2. Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “Whoever says ten times:
لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
‘None has the right to be worshipped by Allah, Alone, without partner, to Him belongs all that exists, and to Him belongs the praise, [He gives life and causes death,] and He has power over all things,’
it is for him equal to freeing four slaves among the offspring of Isma`il (عليه السلام).”
3. It was narrated from Salim bin 'Abdullah bin 'Umar, from his father, that his grandfather (رضی الله عنهم) told that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: "Whoever says, when he enters the marketplace:
لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَىٌّ لاَ يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
'None has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, with no partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and to Him is the praise, He gives life and gives death, and He is Ever-Living and does not die; in His Hand is all goodness and He is Able to do all things,'
Allah will record for him one million good deeds, and will erase from him one million bad deeds, and will build for him a house in Paradise. "
4. Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: If anyone repeats in the morning:
فسبحان الله حين تمسون وحين تصبحون
وله الحمد في السماوات والأرض وعشيّا وحين تظهرون
يخرج الحي من الميت ويخرج الميت من الحي ويحيي الأرض بعد موتها وكذلك تخرجون
وله الحمد في السماوات والأرض وعشيّا وحين تظهرون
يخرج الحي من الميت ويخرج الميت من الحي ويحيي الأرض بعد موتها وكذلك تخرجون
So exalted is Allah when you reach the evening and when you reach the morning.
And to Him is [due all] praise throughout the heavens and the earth.And [exalted is He] at night and when you are at noon.
He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. And thus will you be brought out. (30:17-19)

he will get that day what he has missed; and if anyone repeats these words in the evening he will get that night what he has missed. Ar-Rabi’ transmitted it from al-Layth.
5. Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, do the people of Paradise sleep?” The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
النَّوْمُ أَخُو الْمَوْتِ وَأَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ لا يَنَامُونَ
“Sleep is the sister of death, and the people of Paradise do not sleep.”
In another narration, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
النَّوْمُ أَخُ الْمَوْتِ وَلا يَمُوتُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ
“Sleep is the brother of death, and the people of Paradise do not die.”
6. Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
مثل الذي يذكر ربه والذي لا يذكره، مثل الحي والميت
"The similitude of one who remembers his Rubb and one who does not remember Him, is like that of the living and the dead."
7. Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) reported Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying,
لَا تَجْعَلُوا بِيُوتَكُمْ مَقَابِرَ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَنْفِرُ من الْبَيْت الَّذِي يقْرَأ فِيهِ سُورَة الْبَقَرَة
“Do not make your houses graveyards*. The devil flies from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.”
(*A house in which there is no prayer or recitation of the Qur'an)
8. Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) said, "In the morning, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) would say,
اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا، وَبِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ النُّشُورُ
'O Allah, We enter the morning by You and we enter the evening by You. We live by You and we die by You and to You is gathering.'
In the evening, he would say,
اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ
'O Allah, we enter the evening by You and we enter the morning by You and we live by You and we die by You and to You is the return'."
9. Narrated Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه) : The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, "None of you should wish for death because of a calamity befalling him; but if he has to wish for death, he should say:
اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي، وَتَوَفَّنِي إِذَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي
"O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me'."
10. Yahya related from Malik (رحمهم الله) that he heard that Luqman al-Hakeem (عليه السلام) made his will and counselled his son, saying,
يَا بُنَىَّ جَالِسِ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَزَاحِمْهُمْ بِرُكْبَتَيْكَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحْيِي الْقُلُوبَ بِنُورِ الْحِكْمَةِ كَمَا يُحْيِي اللَّهُ الأَرْضَ الْمَيْتَةَ بِوَابِلِ السَّمَاءِ
"My son! Sit with the learned men and keep close to them. Allah gives life to the hearts with the light of wisdom as Allah gives life to the dead earth with the abundant rain of the sky."
11. ‘Amr ibn ‘Awf (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
اعْلَمْ إِنَّهُ مَنْ أَحْيَا سُنَّةً مِنْ سُنَّتِي قَدْ أُمِيتَتْ بَعْدِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مِنْ الْأَجْرِ مِثْلَ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَنْقُصَ مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْئًا وَمَنْ ابْتَدَعَ بِدْعَةَ ضَلَالَةٍ لَا تُرْضِي اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ مِثْلُ آثَامِ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا لَا يَنْقُصُ ذَلِكَ مِنْ أَوْزَارِ النَّاسِ شَيْئً
“Know that whoever revives a tradition from my Sunnah if it has died out after me, he will have a reward like those who act upon it without diminishing any of their rewards. Whoever innovates a misguided heresy not pleasing to Allah and his messenger, he will have a sin like those who act upon it without diminishing any of the people’s burdens.”
12. The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) has said,
يَا عَلِيُّ ثَلاَثٌ مُجَالَسَـتُهُمْ تُمِيتُ الْقَلْبَ: مُجَالَسَةُ الأََنْذَالِ وَمُجَالَسَةُ الأََغْـنِيَاءِ وَالْحَدِيثُ مَعَ النِّسَآءِ
“O Ali (عليه السلام)! Associating with three (groups) of people kills the heart: low people (those polluted with sins), rich people (those devoted to money) and (frivolous) talk with women.”
13. It was narrated that Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) said: “When the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) offered the funeral prayer he would say:
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ أَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَأَحْيِهِ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الإِيمَانِ اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَحْرِمْنَا أَجْرَهُ وَلاَ تُضِلَّنَا بَعْدَهُ
‘O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whomever of us You cause to live, let him live in Islam, and whomever of us You cause to die, let him die in (a state of) faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not let us go astray after him’.”
14. Narrated Ibn `Umar (رضي الله عنه): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) looked at the people of the well (the well in which the bodies of the pagans killed in the Battle of Badr were thrown) and said,
"Have you found true what your Lord promised you?"
Somebody said to him, "You are addressing dead people." He replied,
"You do not hear better than they but they cannot reply."
15. Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say:
اللهم أصلح لي ديني الذي هو عصمة أمري، وأصلح لي دنياي التي فيها معاشي، وأصلح لي آخرتي التي فيها معادي، واجعل الحياة زيادة لي في كل خير، واجعل الموت راحة لي من كل شر
"O Allah, make my religion easy for me by virtue of which my affairs are protected, set right for me my world where my life exists, make good for me my Hereafter which is my resort to which I have to return, and make my life prone to perform all types of good, and make death a comfort for me from every evil."
Duas
يا غافر يا مسهل يا ميسر يا مميت
اللهم ما لا استوجبه، وأطلب منك مالا استحقه، اللهم إن تعذبني فبذنوبي ولم تظلمني شيئا، وإن تغفر لي فخير راحم أنت يا سيدي، اللهم أنت أنت وأنا أنا، أنت العواد بالمغفرة وأنا العواد بالذنوب وأنت المتفضل بالحلم وأنا العواد بالجهل، اللهم فاني أسئلك يا كنز الضعفاء، يا عظيم الرجاء، يا منقذ الغرقى، يا منجي الهلكى، يا مميت الاحياء، يا محيي الموتى أنت الله الذي لا إله إلا أنت، أنت الذي سجد لك شعاع الشمس، ونور القمر، و ظلمة الليل، وضوء النهار، وخفقان الطير
اللهم يا الله يا رب، يا رحمن ... يا محيي يا مميت يا قابض يا باسط ... يا حنان يا منان يا قديم الاحسان أسئلك بحق هذه الأسماء وبحق أسمائك كلها ما علمت منها وما لم أعلم أن تصلي على محمد نبيك ورسولك وخيرتك من خلقك وعلى آل محمد الطيبين الأخيار الطاهرين الأبرار، وأن تفرج عني كل غم وهم وكرب وضر وضيق أنا فيه وتوسع علي في رزقي أبدا ما أحييتني وتبلغني أملي سريعا عاجلا وتكبت أعدائي وحسادي وذوي التعزز على والظلم لي والتعدي على وتنصرني عليهم برحمتك وتكفيني أمرهم بعزتك وتجعلني الظاهر عليهم بقدرتك وغالب مشيتك يا أرحم الراحمين آمين رب العالمين، وصلى الله وملائكته وأنبياؤه ورسله والصالحون من عباده، على محمد خاتم النبيين وعلى أهل بيته الطيبين الطاهرين وسلم تسليما كثيرا، وحسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل
سبحان ذي العز الشامخ، سبحان ذي الجلال والاكرام، سبحانك يا قدوس يا قدوس، أسئلك بمنك يا منان، وبقدرتك يا قدير، وبحلمك يا حليم وبعلمك يا عليم، وبعظمتك يا عظيم يا حق يا باعث يا وارث يا قيوم يا الله يا رحمن يا رحيم يا ذا الجلال والاكرام يا ربنا أسألك بلا إله إلا أنت جل ثناؤك وأسئلك بوجهك الكريم يا كريم يا سيدنا يا فخرنا يا ذخرنا يا كهفنا يا مولانا يا خالقنا يا رازقنا يا مميتنا يا محيينا يا باعثنا يا وارثنا يا عدتنا يا أملنا يا رجائنا
وأسئلك بوجهك الكريم يا حي، وأسئلك بوجهك الكريم يا قيوم وأسئلك بوجهك الكريم يا الله يا لا إله إلا أنت سبحانك لا إله إلا أنت وأسئلك بوجهك الكريم العزيز وأسئلك بوجهك الكريم يا كبير وأسئلك بوجهك الكريم يا منان وأسئلك بوجهك الكريم يا ذا الجلال والاكرام أن تصلي على محمد عبدك ورسولك ونبيك وآله الطاهرين الأخيار أفضل صلاتك على
نبي من أنبيائك ورسلك
اللهم صل على محمد وآل محمد كما صليت على إبراهيم وآل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد، اللهم صل على محمد وآل محمد، اللهم صل على أبينا آدم وامنا حواء اللهم صل على أنبيائك أجمعين، اللهم وعافني في ديني ودنياي وآخرتي إنك على كل شئ قدير، اللهم وأسئلك أن تتقبل مني فإنك غفور شكور، اللهم وأسئلك أن تغفر لي فإنك غفور رحيم، اللهم وأسئلك أن ترحمني فإنك أنت التواب الرحيم
يا من لا يؤدي حقه أهل السماوات والأرض يا الله يا من لا يؤدي شكره أهل السماوات والأرض يا الله يا من لا يبلغ كنه عظمته أهل السماوات والأرض يا الله يا من له ميراث أهل السماوات والأرض يا الله يا من هو وارث أهل السماوات والأرض يا الله يا مثبت أهل السماوات والأرض يا الله يا محيي أهل السماوات والأرض يا الله يا مميت أهل السماوات والأرض يا الله
اللهم! أنت الحي القيوم العلي العظيم الخالق الرازق المحيي المميت البدئ البديع لك الكرم ولك الجود ولك المن ولك الأمر، وحدك لا شريك لك، يا خالق! يا رازق يا محيي يا مميت! يا بدئ! يا بديع! أسألك أن تصلي على محمد وآل محمد وأن ترحم ذلي بين يديك وتضرعي إليك ووحشتي من الناس وأنسي بك وإليك ، يا الله! يا الله! عشر مرات، صل على محمد وآله واغفر لي وارحمني وثبتني على دينك ودين نبيك، ولا تزغ قلبي بعد إذ هديتني وهب لي من لدنك رحمة إنك أنت الوهاب
يا أول يا آخر يا ظاهر يا باطن يا واسع يا شاكر يا صادق يا حافظ يا فاطر يا قادر يا قاهر يا غافر يا واحد يا أحد يا فرد يا صمد يا علي يا غني يا ملي يا قوى يا ولى يا جواد يا مجيب يا رقيب يا حسيب يا مغيث يا محيي يا مميت يا متكبر يا معيد يا حميد يا نور يا هادي يا مبدئ يا موفق يا حي يا قيوم يا وهاب يا تواب يا فتاح يا مرتاح يا من بيده كل مفتاح يا ذارئ يا متعالي يا كافي يا بادي يا بارئ يا والى يا باقي يا حفيظ يا سديد يا سيد يا سريع يا بديع يا رفيع يا باعث يا رازق يا وحيد يا جليل يا كفيل، يا دليل المتحيرين يا قاضي حوائج السائلين يا مجيب دعوة المضطرين، اجعل لي من كل هم فرجا ومخرجا، وارزقني رزقا حلالا طيبا من حيث أحتسب ومن حيث لا أحتسب
﴾ آمین یا رب العالمین ﴿
Benefits of invoking (Ya Allahu) Ya-Mumeetu frequently
- Eases entry into Jannah
- Getting rid of bad habits
- Develop zeal for worship
- Incline Nafs (psyche) to good deeds
- Nullify magic and plans of enemies
Amal
1. To enter Jannah without accounting for deeds, recite Ya Mumeetu 7 times (while keeping hand on chest) after every Salah.
2. To rid bad habits and develop zeal for worship, recite Ya Mumeetu 7 times and blow on chest after every Salah.
3. To incline the Nafs towards righteousness, recite Ya Mumeetu 11000 times then blow on water (for 11 days) and drink the same.
4. To make Nafs-e-Ammara (the default psyche) subservient, put your hand on the chest and recite Ya Mumeetu several times while sleeping in the night (7 days).
5. To nullify/repel the effects of magic, recite Ya Mumeetu 7 times and blow on yourself.
6. To strengthen the mind and ease difficulties, keep reciting
يا مصور يا مبدي يا معيد يا محيي يا مميت
7. To fulfill Hajaat (needs), recite Ya-Muhyeeu (Adad 68) and Ya Mumeetu (Adad 490) frequently or as per their Adad (the combination is believed to be Ism-e-Azam by some Ulama) and keep their Nuqoosh with yourself.
