Meaning

The Humiliator
The Abaser
The Degrader
The Giver of Dishonor/Disgrace

Explanation

The One whose wisdom creates situations that are low and despicable. The One who creates the appearance of dishonor or degradation. The One whose wisdom produces circumstances of humiliation and disgrace.

Quran

قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ مَالِكَ الْمُلْكِ تُؤْتِي الْمُلْكَ مَن تَشَاءُ وَتَنزِعُ الْمُلْكَ مِمَّن تَشَاءُ وَتُعِزُّ مَن تَشَاءُ وَتُذِلُّ مَن تَشَاءُ ۖ بِيَدِكَ الْخَيْرُ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ 

Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. (3:26)


إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحَادُّونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ أُولَٰئِكَ فِي الْأَذَلِّينَ

Indeed, the ones who oppose Allah and His Messenger - those will be among the most humbled. (58:20)


إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا الْعِجْلَ سَيَنَالُهُمْ غَضَبٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَذِلَّةٌ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُفْتَرِينَ

Indeed, those who took the calf [for worship] will obtain anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world, and thus do We recompense the inventors [of falsehood]. (7:152)

Hadith

It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

مَنْ لَبِسَ ثَوْبَ شُهْرَةٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا أَلْبَسَهُ اللَّهُ ثَوْبَ مَذَلَّةٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُمَّ أَلْهَبَ فِيهِ نَارًا

 ‘Whoever wears a garment of pride and vanity in this world, Allah will clothe him in a garment of humiliation on the Day of Resurrection, then set it ablaze.’”

(Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 4, Book 32, Hadith 3607)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah,: From the Prophet [SAW], that he used to say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْقِلَّةِ وَالْفَقْرِ وَالذِّلَّةِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ

O Allah, I seek refuge with You from want, poverty and humiliation, and I seek refuge with You from wronging others or being wronged."

(Sunan an-Nasa'i 5462)

Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir: that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

الدُّعَاءُ هُوَ الْعِبَادَةُ

"Supplication is the worship." Then he recited:

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ 

'And your Lord said: 'Call upon Me, I will answer you. Verily, those who scorn my My worship, they will surely enter Hell in humiliation (40:60).'"

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3247)

It was narrated from Hudhaifah, that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:

"It is not for the believer to humiliate himself." They said: "How does he humiliate himself?" He said: "By taking on a trial which he can not bear."

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2254)

Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said:

'Seek refuge with Allah from poverty, want, humiliation and wronging others or being wronged.'"

(Sunan an-Nasa'i 5461)

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“May the man before whom I am mentioned - and he does not send Salat upon me - be humiliated. And may a man upon whom Ramadan enters and then passes, before he is forgiven, be humiliated. And may a man whose parents reached old age in his presence, and they were not a cause for his entrance to Paradise, be humiliated.”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3545)

Narrated Abu Umama al-Bahili: I saw some agricultural equipment and said: "I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying:

"There is no house in which these equipment enters except that Allah will cause humiliation to enter it."

(Sahih al-Bukhari 2321)

'Amr bin Shu'aib narrated from his father, from his grandfather from the Prophet (s.a.w) who said:

"The proud will be gathered on the Day of Judgement resembling tiny particles in the image of men. They will be covered with humiliation everywhere, they will be dragged into a prison in Hell called Bulas, submerged in the Fire of Fires, drinking the drippings of the people of the Fire, filled with derangement."

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 4, Book 11, Hadith 2492)

Narrated Jundub: The Prophet (ﷺ) said,

"He who lets the people hear of his good deeds intentionally, to win their praise, Allah will let the people know his real intention (on the Day of Resurrection), and he who does good things in public to show off and win the praise of the people, Allah will disclose his real intention (and humiliate him).

(Sahih al-Bukhari 6499)

Benefits of invoking (Ya Allahu) Ya Muzillu frequently

  • Rid from oppressors, tyrants, cruel and envious people
  • If someone has taken your right, he/she will return it
  • Opposers/insinuating employer will be humbled
  • Reformation in the desires of self/ego
