5. Hadith

5.1 Narrated Ibn `Abbas (رضي الله عنه): Whenever the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) offered his Tahajjud prayer, he would say,

"O Allah, our Lord! All the praises are for You; You are the Keeper (Establisher or the One Who looks after) of the Heavens and the Earth. All the Praises are for You; You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth and whatever is therein. You are the Truth, and Your saying is the Truth, and Your promise is the Truth, and the meeting with You is the Truth, and Paradise is the Truth, and the (Hell) Fire is the Truth. O Allah! I surrender myself to You, and believe in You, and I put my trust in You (solely depend upon). And to You I complain of my opponents and with Your Evidence I argue. So please forgive the sins which I have done in the past or I will do in the future, and also those (sins) which I did in secret or in public, and that which You know better than I. None has the right to be worshipped but You."

(Sahih al-Bukhari 7442)

5.2 Anas (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, "Whoever says everyday

he will not die until he sees his place in the heaven."

(Mukhtasar Tarikh Dimashq)

5.3 Narrated Zayd (رضي الله عنه), the client of the Prophet: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: If anyone says:

"I ask pardon of Allah than Whom there is no deity, the Living, the eternal, and I turn to Him in repentance,"

he will be pardoned, even if he has fled in time of battle.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 1517)

5.4 Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that Abu'd-Darda (رضی الله عنهم) used to rise in the middle of the night and say,

"Eyes have slept, and stars have set, and You are the Living and Self Subsistent."

(Muwatta Malik Book 15, Hadith 43)

5.5 Ubayy bin Ka'b (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: "Abu Mundhir! Do you know which Ayah in Allah's Book is the greatest?" I replied: "It is

'Allah! none has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living'." (2:255)

Thereupon he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) patted me in the chest and said, "Rejoice by this knowledge, O Abu Mundhir!"

(Riyad as-Salihin Book 8, Hadith 29)

5.6 Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that: When a matter would worry the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), he would raise his head up toward the sky and say:

“Glory is to Allah, the Magnificent.”

“O the Living, O Sustainer.”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3436)

5.7 Asma bint Yazid (رضي الله عنها) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “Allah's greatest name is in these two Ayah:

‘And your deity is One deity, there is none who has the right to be worshipped but He, Ar-Raḥmān, Ar-Raḥīm.’  (2:163)

And the Opening of Al-`Imrān:

‘Alif. Lām. Mīm. Allah, None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever living, the Sustainer’.” (3:1-2)

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3478)

5.8 Narrated Ibn al-Asqa' (رضي الله عنه): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) came to them in the swelling place of immigrants and a man asked him: Which is the greatest verse of the Qur'an ? The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) replied:

Allah, there is no god but He - the Living, the Self-Subsisting Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep." (2:255)

(Sunan Abi Dawud 4003)

5.9 It was narrated that Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه) said: "I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and a man was standing and praying. When he bowed, prostrated and recited the tashahhud, he supplicated, and in his supplication he said:

"O Allah, indeed I ask You since all praise is due to You, there is none worthy of worship but You, the Bestower, the Creator of the heavens and earth, O Possessor of majesty and honor, O Ever-living, O-Eternal, I ask of You'."

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: 'Do you know what he has supplicated with?' They said: "Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) and His Messenger know best." He said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, he called upon Allah by His Greatest Name, which, if He is called by it, He Responds, and if He is asked by it, He Gives'."

(Sunan an-Nasa'i 1300)

5.10 Anas (رضي الله عنه) said, "I was with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) when a man made supplication, saying,

'O Originator of the heavens! O Living, Self-Subsistent! I ask of You.'

He said, 'Do you know by what he has made supplication? By the One in whose hand my soul is, he has asked Allah by the Name that He answers when He is asked by it."

‘O Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer! In Your Mercy do I seek relief’.”

And with this chain, that he said: “The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘Be constant with:

“O Possessor of Majesty and Honor’.”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3524)

‘I seek forgiveness from Allah, [the Magnificent] the One whom there is none worthy of worship except for Him, the Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him’

three times, Allah shall forgive him his sins if they were like the foam of the sea, even if they were the number of leaves of the trees, even if they were the number of sand particles of `Alij, even if they were the number of the days of the world.”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3397)

5.13 Jabir b. ‘Abd Allah (رضي الله عنه) reported the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying: "I anyone says when he hears the call to prayer :

'O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and of the prayer which is established for all time, grant Muhammad the wasilah and excellency, and raise him up in a praiseworthy position which Thou hast promised',

he will be assured of my intercession."

(Sunan Abi Dawud 529)

5.14 Narrated Muawiya (رضي الله عنه): I heard the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying,

"A group of people amongst my followers will remain obedient to Allah's orders and they will not be harmed by anyone who will not help them or who will oppose them, till Allah's Order (the Last Day) comes upon them while they are still on the right path."

(Sahih al-Bukhari 3641)

'On Friday, there is an hour when, if a Muslim slave stands in prayer and asks Allah (سبحانه و تعالى)
for something at that time, He will give it to him'."

(Sunan an-Nasa'i Book 14, Hadith 69)

5.16 Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) say:

'The parable of Mujahid (who strives in the cause of Allah) - and Allah knows best who strives in the cause of Allah - is that of one who fasts and prays Qiyam (continually). Allah has promised Mujahid (who strives in His cause), that He will either cause him to die and admit him to paradise, or, He will bring him back safely with whatever he had earned of reward or spoils of war'."

(Sunan an-Nasa'i 3124)
