5. Hadith

5.1 'Umar bin Al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

"If you were to rely upon Allah with the required reliance, then He would provide for you just as a bird is provided for, it goes out in the morning empty, and returns full."

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2344)

5.2 Abu al-Darda’ (رضي الله عنه) said: if anyone says seven times morning and evening;

“Allah sufficeth me: there is no god but He; on him is my trust- he, the Lord of the Throne (of glory) Supreme”,

Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) will be sufficient for him against anything which grieves him, whether he is true or false in (repeating) them.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 5081)

5.3 Narrated Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari (رضي الله عنه) : The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: When a man goes into his house, he should say:

"O Allah! I ask Thee for good both when entering and when going out; in the name of Allah we have entered, and in the name of Allah we have gone out, and in Allah our Lord do we trust."

He should then greet his family.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 5096)

5.4 Anas (رضي الله عنه)  reported: Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, "Whoever says (upon leaving his house):

'I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah,'

it will be said to him: 'You are guided, defended and protected.' The devil will go far away from him". Abu Dawud reported it with this addition: "One devil will say to another: 'How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended and protected?".

(Riyad as-Salihin Book 1, Hadith 83)

5.5 It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه)  that whenever he left his house, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) would say:

“In the Name of Allah, there is no power and strength except with Allah, and trust is placed in Allah.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 3885)

5.6 Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-As (رضي الله عنه) : This Verse:

'Verily We have sent you [O Muhammad (ﷺ)] as a witness, as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner.' (33:45, 48:8)

which is in the Qur'an, appears in the Torah thus:

"Verily We have sent you [O Muhammad (ﷺ)] as a witness, as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner, and as a protector for the illiterates (i.e., the Arabs.) You are my slave and My Apostle, and I have named you Al-Mutawakkil (one who depends upon Allah). You are neither hard-hearted nor of fierce character, nor one who shouts in the markets. You do not return evil for evil, but excuse and forgive. Allah will not take you unto Him till He guides through you a crocked (curved) nation on the right path by causing them to say: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.' With such a statement He will cause to open blind eyes, deaf ears and hardened hearts."

(Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 6, Book 60, Hadith 362)

5.7 Narrated Awf ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه): The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) gave a decision between two men, and the one against whom the decision was given turned away and said: For me Allah sufficeth, and He is the best dispenser of affairs. The Holy Prophet said: Allah, Most High, blames for falling short, but apply intelligence, and when the matter gets the better of you, say;

For me Allah sufficeth, and He is the best disposer of affairs.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 3627)

5.8 Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنه) said: When Ibrahim (عليه السلام) was thrown into the fire, he said:

"Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs."

So did Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) when he was told: "A great army of the pagans had gathered against him, so fear them". But this (warning) only increased him and the Muslims in Faith and they said:

"Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs."

(Riyad as-Salihin Book 1, Hadith 76)

5.9 Abu Sa'eed (رضي الله عنه) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

'How can I be comfortable when the one with the horn is holding it to his lip, his ears listening for when he will be ordered to blow, so he can blow.'

It was as if that was very hard upon the Companions of the Prophet, so he said to them: 'Say:

"Allah is sufficient for us and what a good protector He is, and upon Allah we rely."

"O Allah, our Lord and Lord of everything, I bear witness that Thou art the Lord alone Who hast no partner; O Allah, Our Lord and Lord of everything, I bear witness that Muhammad is Thy servant and Thy apostle ; O Allah, our Lord and Lord of everything, I bear witness that all the servants are brethren; O Allah, our Lord and Lord of everything make me sincere to Thee, and my family too at every moment, in this world and in the world hereafter, O Possessor of glory and honour, listen to me and answer. Allah is incomparably great. O Allah, Light of the heavens and of the earth".

The narrator Sulaiman b. Dawud (رضي الله عنه) said:

"Lord of the heavens and of the earth, Allah is incomparably great. Allah is sufficient for me; and the excellent guardian is He; Allah is incomparably great."

(Sunan Abi Dawud 1508)

5.11 Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrated that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! Shall I tie it and rely (upon Allah), or leave it loose and rely (upon Allah)?" He said:

"Tie it and rely (upon Allah)."

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 4, Book 11, Hadith 2517)

5.12 Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported that Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say:

"O Allah, it is unto Thee that I surrender myself. I affirm my faith in Thee and repose my trust in Thee and turn to Thee in repentance and with Thy help fought my adversaries. O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee with Thine Power; there is no god but Thou, lest Thou leadest me astray. Thou art ever-living that dieth not, while the Jinn and mankind die."

(Sahih Muslim 2717)

5.13 Ibn 'Abbas  (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to supplicate:

"O Allah! to You I submit, in You I affirm my faith, in You I repose my trust, to You I turn in repentance and with Your Help I contend my adversaries and from You I seek judgement. O Allah! Grant me forgiveness for the faults which I made in past and those ones I may commit in the future, those which I committed secretly or openly. You Alone send whomever You will to Jannah, and You Alone send whomever You will to Hell-fire. There is none worthy of worship except You.There is no strength to resist evil and no power to do good except through Allah."

(Riyad as-Salihin Book 17, Hadith 16)

5.14 Ismael bin Abi Fidyak (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said that whenever there was some distressing matter, Jibreel (عليه السلام) would come and remark, "O Muhammad say:

'I have put my trust on The Ever Living One Who does not die. And Praise to Allah, who has not taken a son and has had no partner in [His] dominion and has no [need of a] protector out of weakness; and glorify Him with [great] glorification'."

(Kitab Al-Faraj, Al-Hafid ibn Abi-Dunya 3/46)

5.14 Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنه): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to invoke Allah at night, saying,

"O Allah: All the Praises are for You: You are the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth. All the Praises are for You; You are the Maintainer of the Heaven and the Earth and whatever is in them. All the Praises are for You; You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth. Your Word is the Truth, and Your Promise is the Truth, and the Meeting with You is the Truth, and Paradise is the Truth, and the (Hell) Fire is the Truth, and the Hour is the Truth. O Allah! I surrender myself to You, and I believe in You and I depend upon You, and I repent to You and with You (Your evidences) I stand against my opponents, and to you I leave the judgment (for those who refuse my message). O Allah! Forgive me my sins that I did in the past or will do in the future, and also the sins I did in secret or in public. You are my only God (Whom I worship) and there is no other God for me (i.e. I worship none but You)."

Narrated Sufyan  (رضي الله عنه): (regarding the above narration) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) added,
