3. Explanation
The One Whose help is sought first and foremost and in Whom refuge is taken. Any assistance the creation provides to each other, is through His help alone!
4. Quran
إياك نعبد وإياك نستعين
It is You we worship and You we ask for help. (1:5)
يا أيها الذين آمنوا استعينوا بالصبر والصلاة إن الله مع الصابرين
O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. (2:153)
قال موسى لقومه استعينوا بالله واصبروا إن الأرض لله يورثها من يشاء من عباده والعاقبة للمتقين
Said Moses (عليه السلام) to his people, "Seek help through Allah and be patient. Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah. He causes to inherit it whom He wills of His servants. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous." (7:128)
والله المستعان على ما تصفون
And Allah is the one sought for help against that which you describe. (12:18)
قال رب احكم بالحق وربنا الرحمن المستعان على ما تصفون
[The Prophet] has said, "My Lord, judge [between us] in truth. And our Lord is the Most Merciful, the one whose help is sought against that which you describe." (21:112)
وتعاونوا على البر والتقوى ولا تعاونوا على الإثم والعدوان
And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. (5:2)
إذ تستغيثون ربكم فاستجاب لكم أني ممدكم بألف من الملائكة مردفين
[Remember] when you asked help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another." (8:9)
5. Hadith
5.1 Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) said: One day, I was riding behind the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) when he said, "O boy! I will instruct you in some matters.
احفظ الله يحفظك، احفظ الله تجده تجاهك، إذا سألت فاسأل الله ، وإذا استعنت فاستعن بالله، واعلم: أن الأمة لو اجتمعت على أن ينفعوك بشيء، لم ينفعوك إلا بشيء قد كتبه الله لك، وإن اجتمعوا على أن يضروك بشيء، لم يضروك بشيء إلا بشيء قد كتبه الله عليك؛ رفعت الأقلام، وجفت الصحف
Be watchful of Allah (Commandments of Allah), He will preserve you. Safeguard His Rights, He will be ever with you. If you beg, beg of Him Alone; and if you need assistance, supplicate to Allah Alone for help. And remember that if all the people gather to benefit you, they will not be able to benefit you except that which Allah had foreordained (for you); and if all of them gather to do harm to you, they will not be able to afflict you with anything other than that which Allah had pre-destined against you. The pens had been lifted and the ink had dried up".
5.2 Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (رضي الله عنه) reported that while Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was in one of the gardens of Medina, reclining against a pillow and fixing a stick in a mud, that a person came asking for the gate to be opened, whereupon he said: Open it for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise and, lo, it was Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه). I opened (the gate) for him and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. Then another person asked for the door to be opened, whereupon he said: Open it and give him the glad tidings of Piradise. He said: I went away and, lo, it was Umar (رضي الله عنه). I opened it for him and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. Then still another man asked for the door to be opened, and thereupon Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: Open it and give him the glad tidings of Paradise after a trial would afflict him. I went and, lo, it was Uthman ibn Affan (رضي الله عنه). 1 opened the door and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise and informed him (what the Prophet had said). Thereupon he said:
اللَّهُمَّ صَبْرًا أَوِ اللَّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ
O Allah, grant me steadfastness. Allah is one Whose help is to be sought.
5.3 Abu Umamah (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) made many supplications which we did not memorize. We said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! You have made many supplications of which we do not remember anything." He said, "Shall I tell you a comprehensive prayer? Say:
اللهم إني أسألك من خير ما سألك منه نبيك محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأعوذ بك من شر ما استعاذ منه نبيك محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأنت المستعان، وعليك البلاغ، ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله
'O Allah, I beg to You the good which Your Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) begged of You; and I seek refuge in You from the evil where from Your Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) sought refuge. You are the One from Whom help is sought and Your is the responsibility to communicate (the truth). There is no power or strength except with Allah the Exalted, the Great'."
5.4 Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) reported: Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
المؤمن القوي خير وأحب إلى الله من المؤمن الضعيف وفي كل خير. احرص على ما ينفعك، واستعن بالله ولا تعجز. وإن أصابك شيء فلا تقل: لو أني فعلت كان كذا وكذا، ولكن قل: قدر الله، وما شاء فعل؛ فإن لو تفتح عمل الشيطان
"A strong believer is better and dearer to Allah than a weak one, and both are good. Adhere to that which is beneficial for you. Keep asking Allah for help and do not refrain from it. If you are afflicted in any way, do not say: 'If I had taken this or that step, it would have resulted into such and such,' but say only: 'Allah so determined and did as He willed.' The word 'if' opens the gates of satanic thoughts".
6. Duas
اللهم لك الحمد وإليك المشتكى وبك المستغاث، وأنت المستعان، ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله العلي العظيم
اللهم إني أسئلك باسمك يا حنان، يا منان، يا ديان، يا برهان، يا سلطان، يا رضوان، يا غفران، يا سبحان، يا مستعان، يا ذا المن والبيان سبحانك يا لا اله الا انت الغوث الغوث خلصنا من النار يارب
يا ذا الجود والاحسان، يا ذا الفضل والامتنان، يا ذا الامن والأمان يا ذا القدس والسبحان، يا ذا الحكمة والبيان، يا ذا الرحمة والرضوان، يا ذا الحجة والبرهان، يا ذا العظمة والسلطان، يا ذا الرأفة والمستعان، يا ذا العفو والغفران سبحانك يا لا اله الا انت الغوث الغوث خلصنا من النار يارب
يا الله، يا مستعان يا خلاق، يا لطيف يا شكور، يا قدوس يا سريع، يا شديد يا محيط، يا رب يا قوى، يا رؤوف يا ودود، يا فعال لما يريد ... أسألك بعزتك وقدرتك ونورك وجميع ما أحاط به علمك، وجميع ما أحطت به على خلقك. وأسألك بجمعك وأركانك كلها ... وباسمك الأعظم الأعظم الأعظم الذي من دعاك من كان حقا عليك أن ترده، وأن تعطيه ما سألك أن تصلى على محمد وآل محمد، وأن تغفر لي جميع ذنوبي وجميع علمك في. ولا تدع لي في مقامي هذا ذنبا الا غفرته، ولا وزرا الا حططته، ولا خطيئة الا كفرتها، ولا سيئة الا محوتها، ولا حسنة الا أثبتها، ولا شحا الا سترته، ولا عيبا الا أصلحته، ولا شينا الا زينته، ولا سقما الا شفيته، ولا فقرا الا أغنيته، ولا فاقة الا سددتها، ولا دينا الا قضيته، ولا أمانة الا أديتها، ولا هما الا فرجته، ولا غما الا كشفته، ولا كربة الا نفستها، ولا بلية الا صرفتها، ولا عدوا الا أبدته، ولا مؤونة الا كفيتها، ولا حاجة من حوائج الدنيا والآخرة الا قضيتها، على أفضل أملى ورجائي فيك، وامنن على بذلك يا أرحم الراحمين. اللهم إني عبدك، ناصيتي بيدك، وأجلى بعلمك، أسألك أن تصلى على محمد وآل محمد، وأن توفقني لما يرضيك عنى، وفك رقبتي من النار، وأوسع على من الرزق الحلال الطيب، وادرء عنى شر فسقة العرب والعجم، وشر فسقة الجن والأنس، اللهم صل على محمد وآل محمد، ولا تمكر بي ولا تخدعني، ولا تستدرجني
﴾ آمین یا رب العالمین ﴿
