Benefits of reciting Ya Ahad (يا احد)

Name

Al-Ahad

Meaning

The Unique
The Only One
The Indivisible

Explanation

The One who has ever been and ever remains alone. The incomparable, unequalled, indivisible One. The One who is the essence of Unity. The Sole One. The One and Only One. The One who has no second [that shares] in the lordship, nor in the essence, nor in the attributes. The One who was not begotten and has never begotten. The One who depends upon no other, and to Whom there is no likeness. The One in whom all names, attributes and relationships are united.

The One who is unique in both His essence and attributes. There is no one or nothing like Him and He was, is and will forever be the unequaled amid indivisible Only One.

Quran

Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One." (112:1)

[Allah praises] those who convey the messages of Allah and fear Him and do not fear anyone but Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Reckoner. (33:39)

Hadith

1.
Hanzalah bin 'Ali narrated that: Mihjan bin Al-Adra' (رضی الله عنهم) narrated to him that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered the masjid and there was a man who had finished his prayer and he was reciting the tashahhud. He said:

O Allah, I ask of You, O Allah, as You are the One, the Only, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who begets not nor was He begotten, and there is None equal or comparable to Him, forgive me my sins, for You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "He has been forgiven," three times.

(Sunan an-Nasa'i 1301)

2. `Abdullah bin Buraidah Al Aslami narrated from his father (رضی الله عنهم), who said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) heard a man supplicating, and he was saying:

‘O Allah, indeed, I ask You by my testifying that You are Allah, there is none worthy of worship except You, the One, As-Samad, the one who does not beget, nor was begotten, and there is none who is like Him.

So he said: ‘By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, he has asked Allah by His Greatest Name, the one which if He is called upon by it, He responds, and when He is asked by it, He gives.’

Hammad, the son of Imam Abu Hanifa (رحمهم الله), narrates that when his father saw Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) for the one hundredth time in his dream, he asked Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) what can save creation from His punishment on the Day of Qiyamah. In some versions, it is quoted as
