The Heir
The Inheritor of All

Explanation

The One who remains after all of creation has perished. The One to whom all returns. The One who has everlasting ownership of all that has ever been and that will ever be.

Quran

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْيِي وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ الْوَارِثُونَ

And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor. (15:23)

وَزَكَرِيَّا إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ

And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors." (21:89)

ۚوَمَا لَكُمْ أَلَّا تُنفِقُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلِلَّهِ مِيرَاثُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

And why do you not spend in the cause of Allah while to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth? (57:10)

وتلك الجنة التي أورثتموها بما كنتم تعملون

And that is Paradise which you are made to inherit for what you used to do. (43:72)

تلك الجنة التي نورث من عبادنا من كان تقيّا

That is Paradise, which We give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were fearing of Allah. (19:63)

إنا نحن نرث الأرض ومن عليها وإلينا يرجعون

Indeed, it is We who will inherit the earth and whoever is on it, and to Us they will be returned. (19:40)

ثم أورثنا الكتاب الذين اصطفينا من عبادنا

Then we caused to inherit the Book those We have chosen of Our servants. (35:32)

واجعلني من ورثة جنة النعيم

And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. (26:85)

وورث سليمان داوود وقال يا أيها الناس علمنا منطق الطير وأوتينا من كل شيء إن هذا لهو الفضل المبين

And Solomon inherited David (عليهم السلام). He said, "O people, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given from all things. Indeed, this is evident bounty." (27:16)

وقالوا الحمد لله الذي صدقنا وعده وأورثنا الأرض نتبوأ من الجنة حيث نشاء فنعم أجر العاملين

And they will say, "Praise to Allah , who has fulfilled for us His promise and made us inherit the earth [so] we may settle in Paradise wherever we will. And excellent is the reward of [righteous] workers." (39:74)

Hadith

1. Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

يَتْبَعُ الْمَيِّتَ ثَلاَثٌ فَيَرْجِعُ اثْنَانِ وَيَبْقَى وَاحِدٌ يَتْبَعُهُ أَهْلُهُ وَمَالُهُ وَعَمَلُهُ فَيَرْجِعُ أَهْلُهُ وَمَالُهُ وَيَبْقَى عَمَلُهُ

"Three follow the deceased, two of them return, and one remains. He is followed by his family, his wealth, and his deeds. So his family and his wealth returns, and his deeds remain."

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2379)

2. Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) reported Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying:

يَقُولُ الْعَبْدُ مَالِي مَالِي إِنَّمَا لَهُ مِنْ مَالِهِ ثَلاَثٌ مَا أَكَلَ فَأَفْنَى أَوْ لَبِسَ فَأَبْلَى أَوْ أَعْطَى فَاقْتَنَى وَمَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ فَهُوَ ذَاهِبٌ وَتَارِكُهُ لِلنَّاسِ

"A servant says, My wealth. my wealth, but out of his wealth three things are only his: whatever he eats and makes use of or by means of which he dresses himself and it wears out or he gives as charity, and this is what he stored for himself (as a reward for the Hereafter), and what is beyond this (it is of no use to you) because you are to depart and leave it for other people."

3. Narrated Al-Miqdam al-Kindi (رضي الله عنه): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

مَنْ تَرَكَ كَلاًّ فَإِلَىَّ

"If anyone leaves a debt or a helpless family I shall be responsible."

-and sometimes the narrator said:

إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ .‏ وَمَنْ تَرَكَ مَالاً فَلِوَرَثَتِهِ وَأَنَا وَارِثُ مَنْ لاَ وَارِثَ لَهُ أَعْقِلُ لَهُ وَأَرِثُهُ وَالْخَالُ وَارِثُ مَنْ لاَ وَارِثَ لَهُ يَعْقِلُ عَنْهُ وَيَرِثُهُ

"Allah and His Apostle will be responsible-but if anyone leaves property, it goes to his heirs. I am the heirs of him who has none, paying blood-wit for him and inheriting from him; and a maternal uncle is the heir of him who has none, paying blood-wit for him and inheriting from him."

(Sunan Abi Dawud 2899)

4. Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reports that Fatimah (عليها السلام) came to Abu Bakr Siddique (رضي الله عنه) and asked him who his heirs were. He replied: ''My wife and children''. She asked: ''Then why did I not become heir to my Father's estate?'' He said: "I heard the command of Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) that

لا نُورَثُ

'We (Prophets) do not leave any heirs.'

But (I being a guardian of the waqf) for those whom Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) had decreed a daily allowance, I will continue to grant it. And on whom Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to spend, I will continue to spend".

(Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 401)

5. Narrated 'Amir: I heard An-Nu`man bin Bashir (رضی الله عنهم) on the pulpit saying, "My father gave me a gift but `Amra bint Rawaha (my mother) said that she would not agree to it unless he made Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as a witness to it. So, my father went to Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said, 'I have given a gift to my son from `Amra bint Rawaha, but she ordered me to make you as a witness to it, O Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)!' Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) asked,

أَعْطَيْتَ سَائِرَ وَلَدِكَ مِثْلَ هَذَا

'Have you given (the like of it) to everyone of your sons?'

He replied in the negative. Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ، وَاعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ أَوْلاَدِكُمْ

'Be afraid of Allah, and be just to your children.'

My father then returned and took back his gift."

(Sahih al-Bukhari 2587)

6. It was narrated from Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

مَنْ فَرَّ مِنْ مِيرَاثِ وَارِثِهِ قَطَعَ اللَّهُ مِيرَاثَهُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

“Whoever tries to avoid giving the inheritance to his heirs, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) will deprive him of his inheritance in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection.”

اللهم يا وارث اجعلنا من ورثة جنة النعيم

Amal

1. For happiness, success and protection from punishment in grave recite Ya Warithu 100 times before sunrise.

2. For lasting inheritance, recite Ya Warithu 2828 times daily for 41 days.

3. To remove stress, recite Ya Warithu 121 times between Maghrib and Isha.

4. For long life, recite Ya Warithu 41,000 times on the new moon eve.
