3. Explanation
The One who is most patient, steadfast, and enduring. The One who is not moved by haste to carry out any action before it's proper time. The One who patiently endures and does everything in its proper time and proper manner, no matter how long that may take. The One who patiently accomplishes each thing in its proper time, in the way it needs to be and according to what it requires. The One who does not quickly punish the sinners.
4. Quran
O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. (2:153)
O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful. (3:200)
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience. (103:3)
And Allah loves the steadfast. (3:146)
The patient, the true, the obedient, those who spend [in the way of Allah ], and those who seek forgiveness before dawn. (3:17)
5. Hadith
5.1 Abdullah b. Qais (رضي الله عنه) reported from Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) that
None is more forbearing in listening to the most irksome things than Allah, the Exalted. They associate rivals with him, attribute sonhood to Him, but in spite of this He provides them sustenance, grants them safety, confers upon them so many things.
(Sahih Muslim 2804 c)
5.2 Sufyan bin 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) reported: I asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, of something to which I may remain steadfast." He (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
"Say: My Rubb is Allah and then remain steadfast."
Then I said: "O Messenger of Allah! What do you fear most about me?" He took hold of his own tongue and said: "This."
(Riyad as-Salihin Book 18, Hadith 7)
5.3 Narrated Anas (رضي الله عنه): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
"The real patience is at the first stroke of a calamity."
(Sahih al-Bukhari 1302)
5.4 Al-Bara' b. 'Azib (رضي الله عنه) reported that this verse:
"Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter." (14:27)
was revealed in connection with the torment of the grave.

5.5 It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:
“For everything there is Zakat and the Zakat of the body is fasting.”
(A narrator in one of the chains) Muhriz added in his narration:
"And the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:
'Fasting is half of patience.'"
(Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 1, Book 7, Hadith 1745)
5.6 It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:
“The believer who mixes with people and bears their annoyance with patience will have a greater reward than the believer who does not mix with people and does not put up with their annoyance.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah 4032)
5.7 Shahr bin Haushab reported: I asked Umm Salamah (رضي الله عنها), "O Mother of the Believers! Which supplication did the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) make frequently when he was in your house?" She said: "He (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) supplicated frequently:
'O Controller of the hearts make my heart steadfast in Your religion'."
(Riyad as-Salihin Book 17, Hadith 25)
5.8 Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: "Allah, the Exalted, says:
'I have no reward except Jannah for a believing slave of Mine who shows patience and anticipates My reward when I take away his favourite one from the inhabitants of the world."'
(Riyad as-Salihin Book 7, Hadith 30)
5.9 'Aishah (رضي الله عنها) reported: I asked the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) about pestilence and he said,
"It is a punishment which Allah sends upon whomsoever He wills, but Allah has made it as a mercy to the believers. Anyone who remains in a town which is plagued with pestilence maintaining patience expecting the reward from Allah, and knowing that nothing will befall him other than what Allah has foreordained for him, he would receive a reward of Shaheed".
(Riyad as-Salihin Book 1, Hadith 33)
5.10 Narrated Abu Sa`id (رضي الله عنه): Some people from the Ansar asked Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) (to give them something) and he gave to everyone of them, who asked him, until all that he had was finished. When everything was finished and he had spent all that was in his hand, he said to them,
"(Know) that if I have any wealth, I will not withhold it from you (to keep for somebody else); And (know) that he who refrains from begging others (or doing prohibited deeds), Allah will make him contented and not in need of others; and he who remains patient, Allah will bestow patience upon him, and he who is satisfied with what he has, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And there is no gift better and vast (you may be given) than patience."
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6470)
5.11 Suhaib (رضي الله عنه) reported that Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:
"Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (God), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it."
(Sahih Muslim 2999)
5.12 It was narrated that 'Aishah (رضي الله عنها) said: "When the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saw something he liked, he would say:
'Praise is to Allah by Whose grace good deeds are completed.'
And if he saw something that he disliked, he would say:
'Praise is to Allah in all circumstances'."

5.13 Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) narrated that Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said
"The slave who is troubled with loss of wealth or life and he neither tells it to anyone nor complains to the people, then Allah shall undertake his forgiveness"

5.14 Buraidah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) supplicated
"O Allah, make me grateful and make me patient and make me insignificant in my own eyes and elative in the eyes of people."

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَصَابِرُوا وَرَابِطُوا وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ
وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الصَّابِرِينَ
الصَّابِرِينَ وَالصَّادِقِينَ وَالْقَانِتِينَ وَالْمُنفِقِينَ وَالْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِالْأَسْحَارِ
ۚيَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ حَرِّضِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى الْقِتَالِ ۚ إِن يَكُن مِّنكُمْ عِشْرُونَ صَابِرُونَ يَغْلِبُوا مِائَتَيْنِ
O Prophet, urge the believers to battle. If there are among you twenty [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. (8:65)
رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]. (7:126)
رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people. (2:250)
قَالَ هَٰذَا فِرَاقُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنِكَ ۚ سَأُنَبِّئُكَ بِتَأْوِيلِ مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِع عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًا
[Al-Khidhr] said, "This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience." (18:78)
فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
So be patient with gracious patience. (70:5)
And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon the earth any creature. But He defers them for a specified term. And when their time comes, then indeed Allah has ever been, of His servants, Seeing. (35:45)
And the good word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of what they had patiently endured. (7:137)
Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account. (39:10)
But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not. (2:216)
وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُ اللَّهُ النَّاسَ بِمَا كَسَبُوا مَا تَرَكَ عَلَىٰ ظَهْرِهَا مِن دَابَّةٍ وَلَٰكِن يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۖ فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِ بَصِيرًا
ۖ تَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ الْحُسْنَىٰ عَلَىٰ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا
إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُم بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
وَعَسَىٰ أَن تَكْرَهُوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ ۖ وَعَسَىٰ أَن تُحِبُّوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَّكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
5.1 Abdullah b. Qais (رضي الله عنه) reported from Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) that
مَا أَحَدٌ أَصْبَرَ عَلَى أَذًى يَسْمَعُهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى إِنَّهُمْ يَجْعَلُونَ لَهُ نِدًّا وَيَجْعَلُونَ لَهُ وَلَدًا وَهُوَ مَعَ ذَلِكَ يَرْزُقُهُمْ وَيُعَافِيهِمْ وَيُعْطِيهِمْ
(Sahih Muslim 2804 c)

يُثَبِّتُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الآخِرَةِ

ما لعبدي المؤمن عندي جزاء إذا قبضت صفيه من أهل الدنيا، ثم احتسبه إلا الجنه
(Riyad as-Salihin Book 7, Hadith 30)
5.9 'Aishah (رضي الله عنها) reported: I asked the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) about pestilence and he said,
أنه كان عذاباً يبعثه الله تعالى على من يشاء، فجعله الله تعالى رحمة للمؤمنين، فليس من عبد يقع في الطاعون فيمكث في بلده صابراً محتسباً يعلم أنه لا يصيبه إلا ما كتب الله له إلا كان له مثل أجر الشهيد

عَجَبًا لأَمْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِنَّ أَمْرَهُ كُلَّهُ خَيْرٌ وَلَيْسَ ذَاكَ لأَحَدٍ إِلاَّ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ إِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ سَرَّاءُ شَكَرَ فَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُ وَإِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ ضَرَّاءُ صَبَرَ فَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُ
(Sahih Muslim 2999)
