Quran
Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (3:18)
[They are] avid listeners to falsehood, devourers of [what is] unlawful. So if they come to you, [O Muhammad], judge between them or turn away from them. And if you turn away from them - never will they harm you at all. And if you judge, judge between them with justice. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. (5:42)
But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood. (72:15)
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted. (4:135)
We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice. And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people, and so that Allah may make evident those who support Him and His messengers unseen. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might. (57:25)
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do. (5:8)
Hadith
1. It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As (رضي الله عنه) that: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:
"Those who are just and fair will be with Allah, Most High, on thrones of light, at the Right Hand of the Most Merciful, those who are just in their rulings and in their dealings with their families and those of whom they are in charge."
Muhammad (one of the narrators) said in his Hadith:
"And Both of His Hands are Right Hands."
(Sunan an-Nasa'i 5379)
2. Narrated Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (رضي الله عنه): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:
Glorifying Allah involves showing honour to a grey-haired Muslim and to one who can expound the Qur'an, but not to one who acts extravagantly regarding it, or turns away from it, and showing honour to a just ruler.
(Sunan Abi Dawud 4843)
3. It was narrated from Dawud hin Al-Husain, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضی اللہ عنهم), that the Verses in Al-Ma'idah, in which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, says:
"So if they come to you, [O Muhammad], judge between them or turn away from them. And if you turn away from them - never will they harm you at all. And if you judge, judge between them with justice. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly." (5:42)
- were revealed concerning the matter of blood money between An-Nadir and Quraizah. That was because the slain of An-Nadir were of noble status, so the blood money would be paid in full for them, but for Banu Quraizah only half of the blood money would be paid. They referred the matter to the Messenger of Allah for judgment, then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed that concerning them, so the Messenger of Allah told them to do the right thing and he made the blood money equal.
(Sunan an-Nasa'i 4733)
4. Ata bn As-Sa'ib narrated that his father said: "Ammar bin Yasir (رضی اللہ عنهم) led us in prayer and he made it brief. Some of the people said to him: 'You made the prayer sort (or brief).' He said: 'Nevertheless I still recited supplications that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).' When he got up and left, a man- he was my father but he did not name himself- followed him and asked him about that supplication, then he came and told the people.
"O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, keep me alive so long as You know that living is good for me and cause me to die when You know that death is better for me. O Allah, cause me to fear You in secret and in public. I ask You to make me true in speech in times of pleasure and of anger. I ask You to make me moderate in times of wealth and poverty. And I ask You for everlasting delight and joy that will never cease. I ask You to make me pleased with that which You have decreed and for an easy life after death. I ask You for the sweetness of looking upon Your face and a longing to meet You in a manner that does not entail a calamity that will bring about harm or a trial that will cause deviation. O Allah, beautify us with the adornment of faith and make us among those who guide and are rightly guided."
(Sunan an-Nasa'i 1305)
5. 'Iyad bin Himar (رضي الله عنه) reported: Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
"The people of Jannah will be of three kinds: A just successful ruler, a man who shows mercy to his relatives, and a pious believer who has a large family and refrains from begging."
(Riyad as-Salihin Book 1, Hadith 662)
